How to Find Roku IP Address, With or Without the Remote
Short answer
Press Home on your Roku remote and go to Settings > Network > About. The IP address is listed on the right, and the path is the same on Roku TVs, streaming sticks and players. Without the remote, use the Roku mobile app on the same Wi-Fi or look for the Roku in your router’s list of connected devices.

Your Roku’s IP address is the private address your router gave it on your home network, for example 192.168.1.37. Every Roku TV, streaming stick and player shows it in the same menu, and the Roku app and your router show it too. This guide covers every method, plus no-remote options, serial numbers, keeping the address fixed and developer access on port 8060.
Where to find the IP address on a Roku TV or streaming stick
- Press Home on your Roku remote.
- Scroll down and select Settings.
- Select Network.
- Select About.
- Find IP address in the details on the right.
The About screen also lists details such as the connection type, network name, signal strength and MAC address. A gateway address, if shown, belongs to your router, not the Roku. If no IP address appears, the Roku isn’t connected: go to Settings > Network > Set up connection, join your network, then check About again.
Roku TV vs. streaming stick: what’s different
The path is the same on every Roku, including Roku TVs from brands such as TCL and Hisense. Only the connection options and restart path differ:
| Device | Connection | Restart path |
|---|---|---|
| Roku TV (any brand) | Wi-Fi; Ethernet on many models | Settings > System > Power > System restart |
| Roku streaming stick, Roku Express | Wi-Fi | Settings > System > System restart |
| Roku Ultra | Wi-Fi or Ethernet | Settings > System > System restart |
No Power menu on your Roku TV? Use Settings > System > System restart.
Private vs. public: which Roku IP address you see
The private (local) address only works inside your home network. It usually starts with 192.168, 10, or 172.16 to 172.31. Every method on this page shows it, and it’s the address apps and routers ask for.
On the internet, your Roku uses your home’s public IP address, which every device on your network shares. Streaming services see your connection through this address and use IP geolocation, the kind of data our IP lookup API returns, to estimate your country and time zone. To see your public IP, open Where am I on a phone or computer on the same Wi-Fi. Our guide to finding the IP address on any device explains both address types.
How to find your Roku IP address in the Roku mobile app
The free Roku app for iPhone and Android shows the IP address of any Roku on your Wi-Fi.
- Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku.
- Open the Roku app and tap Devices.
- Tap your Roku. If the app asks, connect to it.
- Tap Options (the three-dot icon) next to your Roku.
- Tap View system info.
- Find the IP address in the list.
If your app version looks different, tap Remote and use the on-screen remote to open Settings > Network > About.
How to find Roku IP address without the remote
Use the Roku app as your remote
If the Roku is on your Wi-Fi, the Roku app works as a remote. Use the app steps above, or open Settings > Network > About with the on-screen remote. The buttons on the TV itself vary by model and may not reach the menus.
Check your router’s list of connected devices
Your router assigned the IP address, so it lists it too. It’s the same method that works for finding a printer’s IP address.
- Open your router’s admin page or app. The address, often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, is usually on the router’s label.
- Sign in with the router’s admin password.
- Open the list of connected devices, for example Attached Devices, Device List, DHCP Clients or Network Map.
- Find the entry with Roku in its name or as the manufacturer.
- Read the IP address next to it.
With several Rokus, unplug one and refresh the list. The entry that disappears or turns inactive is that Roku. If you don’t know your router’s address, see how to look up your router’s IP address (default gateway).
If your Roku isn’t on Wi-Fi
A Roku that isn’t on a network has no IP address, and the app can’t see it. If it has an Ethernet port (Roku Ultra and many Roku TVs), connect it to your router with a cable. The router then lists it, and the app can usually find it.
Replaced your Wi-Fi? A phone hotspot can stand in for the old network. You need two phones:
- On phone one, start a hotspot with your old Wi-Fi’s exact name and password.
- Turn on the Roku and let it join the hotspot.
- Connect phone two to the hotspot.
- Open the Roku app on phone two and select your Roku.
- Use the app’s remote to open Settings > Network > Set up connection > Wireless.
- Choose your new network and enter its password.
- Turn off the hotspot.
If neither option works, get a replacement remote.
Can you find a Roku IP address by serial number?
No. The serial number identifies the hardware and never changes, while your router assigns the IP address and can change it. No tool or website can turn one into the other.
It does help you tell several Rokus apart. It’s on the device label, the back of the TV and the box, and under Settings > System > About. To match it:
- Note a likely Roku IP address from your router list or the Roku app.
- On a computer on the same network, open
http://IP-ADDRESS:8060/query/device-infoin a browser, using the Roku’s IP. - Compare the
serial-numbervalue with the label.
Why you might need your Roku’s IP address
- Connect the Roku app, or a casting or home automation app, that can’t find the Roku on its own.
- Reserve a fixed IP or apply router rules, such as parental controls.
- Troubleshoot, for example by pinging the Roku from a computer.
- Send developer commands through Roku’s External Control Protocol.
For developers: Roku External Control Protocol on port 8060
Roku’s External Control Protocol (ECP) is a REST API over HTTP on port 8060 that lets programs control a Roku on your local network. For discovery, send an SSDP M-SEARCH request with ST: roku:ecp to 239.255.255.250:1900, and each Roku replies with its URL in the Location header and its serial number in the USN header. This Python script lists every Roku on your network with its IP address and serial number:
import socket
# SSDP discovery request, as documented by Roku
MSEARCH = (
"M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1\r\n"
"Host: 239.255.255.250:1900\r\n"
'Man: "ssdp:discover"\r\n'
"ST: roku:ecp\r\n"
"\r\n"
)
sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM)
sock.settimeout(3)
sock.sendto(MSEARCH.encode(), ("239.255.255.250", 1900))
try:
while True:
data, (ip, _port) = sock.recvfrom(2048)
headers = {}
for line in data.decode(errors="ignore").split("\r\n")[1:]:
if ":" in line:
key, value = line.split(":", 1)
headers[key.strip().lower()] = value.strip()
# USN looks like uuid:roku:ecp:<serial number>
serial = headers.get("usn", "").split(":")[-1]
print(ip, serial, headers.get("location", ""))
except socket.timeout:
passWith the IP address, you can read device details or send remote keys:
# Model, serial number, network type and MAC addresses
curl "http://192.168.1.37:8060/query/device-info"
# Press the Home button
curl -d '' "http://192.168.1.37:8060/keypress/home"As of Roku OS 14.1, keypress commands require Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Control by mobile apps to be set to Enabled. The query/device-info command needs neither that setting nor developer mode.
Warning
Avoid the “Permissive” option under Control by mobile apps. Roku warns that it lets devices inside and outside your network send any command to your Roku. “Enabled” limits control to devices on your local network.
How to give your Roku a fixed IP address
Routers lend out addresses for a limited time, so your Roku’s IP can change. The Roku network menu has no static IP option, so reserve the address in your router (DHCP reservation):
- Note the Roku’s MAC address under Settings > Network > About or in your router’s device list.
- Open your router’s admin page or app and sign in.
- Open the reservation setting, usually under LAN or DHCP. Common labels are Address Reservation, DHCP Reservation and Static Lease.
- Select the Roku or enter its MAC address, and choose the IP address it should keep.
- Save the setting.
- Restart the Roku, using the restart path from the table above.
- Open Settings > Network > About and confirm the address.
Tip
A Roku with both Wi-Fi and Ethernet has two MAC addresses. Reserve the one for the connection it uses, or reserve both.
Troubleshooting: Roku not showing in the app, IP changed, guest network
The Roku app can’t find your Roku
Work through these checks from Roku’s guide to connecting the mobile app:
- Put your phone and the Roku on the same network name. Some routers show separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names.
- On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap Roku and turn on Local Network.
- Turn off any VPN on your phone.
- Restart the Roku, then close and reopen the app.
- Connect manually: tap Devices, then Get help?, then Connect manually. Enter the IP address and tap CONNECT.
If the app connects but the buttons do nothing, set Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Control by mobile apps to Enabled. Roku’s remote app help page explains each option.
Your Roku is on a guest network
Guest networks usually stop devices from talking to each other (client or AP isolation). Put the Roku and your phone on the main network, or turn off isolation in the router.
Your Roku’s IP address changed
After a router restart or power outage, the router can assign a new address. Look up the new IP under Settings > Network > About, update your apps, and add a DHCP reservation.
The IP doesn’t start with 192.168, 10 or 172.16 to 172.31
Then the Roku likely has a public IP address, which happens when no router manages your network. Connect it through a router or contact your internet provider. A Roku on Ethernet must also be in the same address range as your Wi-Fi devices. If it isn’t, use Wi-Fi.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my Roku IP address without the remote?
Open the Roku mobile app on a phone that is on the same Wi-Fi as the Roku, tap Devices, tap Options (the three dots) next to your Roku and choose View system info. You can also find the Roku and its IP address in your router’s list of connected devices. If the Roku is not on Wi-Fi, the app cannot see it, so connect it with an Ethernet cable or get a replacement remote.
What is the IP address on Roku?
It is the private address your router assigns the Roku on your home network, for example 192.168.1.37. It is not fixed and can change unless you reserve it in your router. You find it under Settings > Network > About. On the internet, the Roku uses your home’s public IP address, which you can see with Where am I.
Can I find the IP address on the back of my Roku TV?
No. The label on the back of a Roku TV or Roku player shows details such as the model and serial number, but not the IP address. Your router assigns the IP when the TV joins the network, so it cannot be printed and it can change. Look it up under Settings > Network > About or in your router’s device list.
How do I connect my Roku to Wi-Fi without a remote?
The Roku app only works with a Roku that is already on your network, so you need a workaround. If the Roku has an Ethernet port, connect it to your router with a cable and then use the app. If you replaced your Wi-Fi, create a phone hotspot with the old network name and password, connect a second phone with the Roku app to it, and switch networks under Settings > Network > Set up connection. If neither works, get a replacement remote.
Can I find my Roku IP address by serial number?
No. The serial number identifies the device, while your router assigns the IP address, and no lookup connects the two. The serial number helps you tell several Rokus apart: open http://IP-ADDRESS:8060/query/device-info in a browser on your network and compare the serial-number value with the label.
Why does my Roku IP address keep changing?
Your router hands out addresses through DHCP and can give the Roku a different one after a restart, a power outage or a long time offline. The Roku network menu has no static IP setting. Set up a DHCP reservation for the Roku’s MAC address in your router, and the Roku gets the same IP every time.
